Private Commission · By Appointment

The Bespoke
Atelier.

A strand matched to one person, sourced from Zhuji and strung by hand in our Ontario atelier. Six weeks from your order to your door.

A Different Way to Buy a Pearl

Most fine jewelry is made, then sold. We reverse it.

Collection pieces are finished in advance. Each one a strand we decided was ready. A commission is built only after you commit. Pearls are sourced from our Zhuji partners the day you order, then matched and strung in our Ontario studio by hand. The work doesn't compress. We wait six weeks together.

What a Commission Means

Three things. Nothing more, nothing less.

We believe in a small, honest offer. No subscriptions, no loyalty tiers, no fine print.

I.

One strand. For one person.

Made-to-order is literal: the pearls for your strand do not exist on a shelf when you place the order. They are sourced, matched, and strung specifically for you, after you commit. Nothing about your strand is generic.

II.

Matched to you, sourced for you

Length, pearl size, drop shape, color, clasp, metal. Every variable is chosen with you in a single consultation.

III.

Six to eight weeks, or four with priority

Standard timeline is six to eight weeks. Four-week priority is possible — message the studio before you commit.

The Commission

Four quiet steps.

01Week 1

Consultation

Thirty minutes on a call. We understand the wearer, the intent, the wardrobe, the occasion. We sketch two or three directions. You choose one.

02Weeks 2–4

Sourcing & Matching

We commission specific pearls from our farm partners. Each pearl is measured, graded, and photographed. You are sent match previews for approval before construction begins.

03Weeks 4–7

Hand-Construction

Drilling, silk-knotting between every pearl, clasp fitting, and final alignment are done by hand, in our studio.

04Weeks 7–8

Delivery

Insured courier to your address, or a private studio appointment. Priority commissions compress this to four weeks.

On The Wait

Six weeks is not a delay. It's the work.

When you order a Hardly Common strand, no warehouse drawer opens. Pearls travel from Zhuji. They are inspected, matched, and strung knot-by-knot in our Ontario studio by one pair of hands.

Six weeks is what the work takes. So we wait together — and when your strand arrives, you see the time in every inch of silk between every pearl.

Considered Questions

What clients ask before they begin.

Why does a Hardly Common strand take six weeks?

Because nothing is sitting on a shelf waiting for you. When you commit, we order the specific pearls from our Zhuji partners. They travel. They arrive at our Ontario studio. They get inspected, matched, and strung — knot-by-knot, on double-knotted silk, by hand. We wait six weeks together.

Can I get a commission faster than six to eight weeks?

Sometimes, yes. A four-week priority timeline is possible when our farm partners have appropriate pearls in current stock. Message the studio before you commit and we will confirm within one business day.

What is the See It First Guarantee?

You have 14 days from delivery to live with your strand. Hold it. Wear it in natural light. If the lustre, the colour, the weight, or the craft don't meet what we promised, we refund every cent and cover the return shipping.

Can I see the pearls before they are set?

Always. After sourcing we send studio photographs of the candidate pearls. Nothing is built without your final approval.

Is the deposit refundable?

Before sourcing begins, yes, in full. Once pearls have been committed by our farm partners, the deposit becomes non-refundable. The See It First Guarantee still applies once you receive the strand.
